De Olho nos Olhos Project
In this new phase, the Project expects the planting of 130 thousand seedlings of native trees, thus recovering 157 hectares of the Atlantic Forest through the restoration of 200 springs. At first, the project will take place in 10 cities that are within Conservation Units, such as the “Area of Environmental Protection” – APA (Área de Proteção Ambiental) Fernão Dias, APA Serra da Mantiqueira, among other cities located in the region of Alto da Bacia of the Rio Sapucaí.
The project is to be executed until March 2019 and it expects the production of part of the seedlings through the institution’s forest-tree nursery, besides the promotion of environmental education among the students and the communities involved.
For the implementation of this project, the Grupo Dispersores counts on the partnership with the project “Plantando o Futuro”, through the Economical Development Company of Minas Gerais (CODEMIG) and the Government of the State of Minas Gerais.
The recovery of a degraded spring consists in recovering the native bushes around the water spring, where the permanent preservation area (PPA) of the spring is enclosed (with posts and barbed wire in a 50-meter radius) and the seedlings of native trees are planted, boosting the natural regeneration of the deforested area. A protected and reforested spring enables the conservation of water in the property, and therefore fuels our rivers and basin, bringing water to human supply in urban centers.
The project will benefit rural landowners that are interested in taking part in the project. Those, when selected, will receive all the required technical support for free, besides supplies such as posts and barbed wire to enclose the area around the spring, as well as the seedlings of native trees to start the process of re-vegetation of the deforested area.
